Most would not expect a picturesque looking city like this one in Cote de Ivoire, in West Africa to be mentioned as one of the most dangerous towns, but it is. Mercer Consulting recently released a global report based on safety levels to help companies compensate employees fairly when placing them on assignments. It covers 221 cities ranked against New York as the base and measures them by criteria such as internal stability, crime levels, law enforcement effectiveness and the host countries’ international relations, says CNBC.com.


Tthe cities listed below are beseiged with great political instability which has hatched many forms of politically-motivated violence, uprisings and armed-revolts.

It is within this toxic atmosphere that “crime for profit” and criminal enterprises — particularly against Westerners and Americans — sprout like weeds. This is why  24/7 Wall Street reports, the U.S. Department of State has issued strong travel advisories, and in some cases admonishes travelers to avoid the city and/or nation altogether and urges the U.S. citizens living there to vacate the country with all deliberate speed.
