Beat the rush: Tips for a safe and savvy Black Friday

Beat the rush: Tips for a safe and savvy Black Friday

It’s that time of year again… time to shop! Score some outrageous deals while avoiding lines, mass chaos, and the possible use of mace, with a few of our stress-free shopping tips.

1. Plan ahead. What war was ever won without mapping out a strategy? Saw something you liked in a magazine or an online mailer? Make sure, you marked it and added it to your list, but do stick to it!

2. Believe it or not, there’s an app for that! Download the Better Christmas List. This app helps you organize your list, while keeping an eye on your budget.

3. On Black Friday, there is no time to stand around in the aisle, wondering “Where have I seen this cheaper?!” Pull out your smartphone and utilize ShopSavvy. ShopSavvy is a bar code scanner that immediately pulls up the best deals at stores near you, as well as online.

4. Want to avoid lines entirely? Most big department stores, including Macy’s, JCPenny’s, and Sears, offer the same deals online. Now what’s not to love about that?

5. Last, but not least, for those still braving it out, layer up (the weather can run hot or cold), fuel up, and, most importantly, use the buddy system. Shopping with a friend or family member reduces your chances of being a victim of theft or violence!

Happy holidays and most of all happy, safe shopping! –ruthie hawkins
