Sandy Hook Elementary school victims
The names and ages of the 26 people gunned down by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary have been released. Police report that the extremely bright, but deeply disturbed 20-year-old forced his way into the building and carried out a massacre before turning one of his three weapons on himself.
20 of Lanza’s victims were children ages 6 to 7 including 6-year-old Ana Marquez-Greene. The daughter of Canadian jazz musician Jimmy Greene, Ana was described as “an incredibly loving and spunky kid” who loved to sing and dance. Like the other young victims at Sandy Hook, Ana had no idea that Friday would be her last day on earth and had just enrolled at Sandy Hook in July. Both Ana and her older brother attended Sandy Hook after moving to Newton with their parents and leaving a nearby Christian school. Both children were inside the school when the shooting began. Ana’s brother escaped harm. Ana’s father took to Facebook shortly after the shooting to post a message about his fallen daughter and asked for prayers as the family “works through this nightmare.” “We’re reminded how much we’re loved and supported on this earth and by our Father in heaven,” wrote Greene. “As much as she’s needed here and missed by her mother, brother and me, Ana beat us all to paradise. I love you sweetie girl.”
In 2009 Greene dedicated a song to his daughter on his Mission Statement album. The saxophone player named the track “Ana Grace” after his baby girl.
