Another day, another professional athlete’s marriage implodes. The wife of former Major League Baseball superstar Andruw Jones filed for divorce following his Christmas Day arrest for assaulting her.
According to the arrest records obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jones, 35, was arrested in Atlanta early Christmas morning and charged with domestic battery. Nicole Derick-Jones phoned authorities after the record-breaking center fielder allegedly choked her and threatened to kill her. In her divorce filing, Mrs. Jones said the couple’s bonds of matrimony were “irretrievably broken.”
Andruw Jones was subsequently arrested and released from jail on $2,400 bond.
He is but one of several athletes whose marriages dissolved through a myriad of indiscretions.
