Drake addresses talks about leaving Young Money

The Web has been buzzing for the past 24 hours over reports that YMCMB superstar Drake was preparing to jump ship, leave the label that made him a superstar and sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation imprint. As reported by several outlets, Young Money would receive $50 million for the rights to the Canadian-born rapper, which many speculated included his OVO brand and any music associated with him going forward.

But there was no truth to the story.

XXL is reporting today (January 26, 2013) that YMCMB has no interest and no plan to “sell” one of their most popular artists, and there were never any talks with Roc Nation about obtaining him.

“A source close to the situation … tells us that the rumor is simply not true,” it is reported. “It is uncharacteristic of YMCMB to drop, sell and trade an artist as renowned as Drake.”

Drake has been fighting rumors of a Young Money exit for over a year now. Last December 2011, in concert, Drizzy addressed speculation that he wasn’t happy with Lil Wayne’s camp.

“I’ll tell you, if you ever wake up in the morning and you think Young Money ain’t my team, you out of your motherf–king mind,” Drake told the crowd while performing in Connecticut that December. “I’ll tell you that right now. My brother Lil Wayne is all the way in Australia right now but I got my camera on in the back and I just want to let him know how much love me and Hartford got for him, so if you got love for Lil Wayne, make some noise.” –stereo williams
