The Baltimore Ravens returned home to central Maryland to bask in the unadulterated adulation of their rabid fanbase after scraping by the talented San Francisco 493rs in Super Bowl 2013 in New Orleans.
Powered by legendary linebacker and two-time Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis, surging quarterback and game MVP Joe Flacco, receiver Anquan Bolden — who has vice grips for hands and made some spectacular catches throughout the playoffs — and Ray Rice who surgically dissected the 49ers’ defense enough to give Flacco enough protection on the ground, the Ravens get to do something that doesn’t often happen: stand shoulders above their nearby sister city, the District of Columbia, as world title holders.
The storylines were not only delicious for title-hungry city, they were heartwarming. Ray Lewis gets to retire a champion, something so few elite athletes get to do. And just as enticing a tale is the fact that the John Harbaugh won what was called the “Har-Bowl” and “Super-Baugh” after he defeated his younger brother Jim Harbaugh in the first ever siblings to be head coaches in America’s most watched sporting event.
A throng of title-thirsty fans thundered along the parade route that led back to Ravens’ home stadium. Take a look at the best Instagram photos from the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl championship win, their return home and then the parade and rally in Baltimore.
