What is the purpose of the 4h drill team?

The 4H drill is like any other FFA or Four H project. They have to get the horse, keep it up and come to practice throughout the year.  The kids pick out their own costumes, music, and plan all of their routines. The program helps to teach responsibility, organization and you can be safe knowing that your kids are doing something positive. The team also competes in the Texas Open, which is a Texas regional competition for drill teams, and the Super Ride, which is a national competition.

Why does community service play such a major role with the program?

We try to do events that benefit our community and it gives the girls a sense of pride and understanding of those who are less fortunate. Some of our programs include “Horseshoes from the Heart,” which gives disabled adults a chance to participate in the Houston rodeo trail rides and parades. We also host a fundraiser every year for “Homes for our Troops” to build homes for disabled soldiers.

How can others get involved with the program?

We are always excited to welcome new members. Each individual is responsible for his/her own horse and coming to practice four times a week. All of our horses are different colors, but all of them are of the same breed. It costs a lot of money to travel, hotel fees can be very expensive with your horse, and having to stall the horses, feed them and so on [can be expensive] … Sponsorships and donations are always needed during competition time.
