NFL Draft 2013: 1st openly gay man to try out for pro football

The first openly gay football player is fighting not only for full acceptance but also to become the first ever to play in the NFL.

As much of the nation’s attention is trained on Radio City Music Hall in Midtown Manhattan for the 2013 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 25, Alan Gendreau will also be paying close watch. There are a couple of teams that are in need of Gendreau’s specialty and he and his camp will see if they will give him a tryout.


Gendreau, a devout Christian and Florida native was a star place kicker for the Middle Tennessee State’s Blue Raiders.


In an interview with OutSports magazine, Gendreau talked about life as an openly gay college athlete and his NFL prospects, revealing that when he came out to his MT team in freshman year, they fully embraced him.
