Youth doing it big with McDonald’s ‘The Gift’ competition

The Gift is a youth singing competition presented by McDonald’s and Taylormade Marketing, LLC. It showcases young talent in the metropolitan Atlanta area for singers seeking a music and performing arts career through education. They are provided with funding assistance, marketing, voice coaching and a chance to work with a music industry producer to record their selected song. The auditions were held at McDonald’s restaurants in Atlanta. The finalist had to complete a Marketing assignment to get additional points.

McDonald’s “The Gift” Winner of $20,000 in cash and prizes is Madisyn Kenner daughter of Dr. Nakia Shaw. She is 13 years old and attends Landmark Christian School in Fairburn, GA.

How long have you been singing?

I have been singing since I was in diapers, but I first discovered the ability to sing it was Christmas evening. I got this Karaoke machine, I was singing “Fallin” by Alicia Keys, and my family notices some abilities in me. I was just having fun and my mom called my dad to listen to me. That’s how it all got started.

What are your hobbies?

I write my own music, sports (softball, tennis), playing the drums and the piano

What are your career goals?

My career goals are to sing and become an actress and a businesswoman, writing and producing my own tracks. Right now, I co-produce.

Are you planning to attend college?

With furthering my singing career and I start to travel with my career I plan to continue my education online.

Name two books you’ve read that changed how you saw life.

Heat by Mike Lupica

Percy Jackson and the Olympian series, by Rick Riordan

What advice do you share with your peers?

Stay on the right path, remember why they got started and remain humble. This is what they want to do with their life and God given the Gift to use their talent they want to share with the world and not to just benefit themselves but others.

How did you feel when you won the “The Gift” from McDonald’s?

I was stunned and happy, shocked, overflowing with joy and happiness.

Is there anything you want to say to McDonald’s about winning?

I want to thank McDonald’s for the opportunity and I had a good time working with them and the other contestants. Everyone in this competition was very talented and humble.
