Black ‘Treme’ actor Rob Brown racially profiled and handcuffed at Macy’s

HBO's "Treme" Galactic and Big Sam call Delmond to the stage.

Rob Brown has starred alongside Sean Connery and Samuel Jackson in the films Finding Forrester and Coach Carter, respectively. Brown also stars in the HBO series “Treme.”

However, his acting credentials did not prevent him from becoming a victim of racial profiling. According to reports by NY Daily News, Brown has sued Macy’s flagship store in New York after he was detained for buying a $1,300 watch for his mother at the store in June.

After purchasing the item, Brown was surrounded by several members of the NYPD. They handcuffed Brown and embarrassed him by walking him through the entire store as customers watched. Brown was held in a holding area where cops asked him how he could afford such a pricey item and rummaged through his bag. And although he showed his ID, the cops accused him of making a purchase with a fraudulent credit card.

After being detained for over an hour, Brown was released once the police did not find evidence of theft. Brown has filed a lawsuit against Macy’s stating that he was arrested based on race.
