Same-sex marriage has been a major topic all year as states like Hawaii and Illinois have been changing their laws on the matter and working to allow same-sex couples to legally marry. Now, one of the sports world’s biggest gay stars, boxer Orlando Cruz, is making gay marriage headlines of his own after he recently wed his longtime boyfriend, José Manuel Colón, in New York’s Central Park.

According to the Huffington Post, Cruz and his partner tied the knot on Nov. 16 in a ceremony officiated by New York City Councilmember Melissa Mark-Viverito.

Cruz proposed to his now-husband last August with a high-profile Facebook post and Cruz used Facebook again to celebrate jumping the broom with his hubby.

“Giving thanks to my heavenly father for one more day of life and with [my] husband José Manuel in it,” Cruz wrote in Spanish on his Facebook page, according to a translation.
