Tamron Hall is showing off her natural curls that many of her fans had no idea existed. The MSNBC anchor recently revealed to natual hair blogger Curly Nikki that she’s long had chemical-free hair but keeps it straight for a more “professional look” like several of her black media counterparts.
“Like many black women on television, straight hair has been her professional life and look … that was until our trip together to South Africa. After hearing about my hair story and experiencing for herself the positive and supportive natural hair community, she felt inspired to finally share her curly story with the world,” wrote CurlyNikki about the anchor.
Nikki also divulged that Hall admitted to sometimes being jealous of her white co-workers, whose morning prep doesn’t include blow drying, manipulating and straightening their hair to make it “appropriate.”
” In a moment of pure honesty, [Hall] also shared that she sometimes felt a bit of resentment at her white colleagues who could wake up in the morning and come right in to work, entirely ‘appropriate’ or ‘professional’, but that she’d have to spend hours — that she could’ve spent resting or preparing — manipulating her hair to meet the straight hair standard of beauty,” wrote Nikki.
Hall has since posted a few photos of her natural hair on Instagram.
“Checkout @curlynikki and her amazing blog on natural hair. She convinced me to share my story and for the first time show my curls!” she captioned the above photo of her au natural coiffure.
