On Saturday, Jan. 18, Jason Ash was found with numerous razor cuts on his body and had been strangled to death at age 43. The tragedy took place in Glendale, Ariz., at an apartment belonging to a woman named Tracey Woodside. The culprit of this tragic incident has been identified as 16-year-old Jessica Burlew, Woodside’s daughter and Ash’s girlfriend.
After being home for some time, Woodside left home to take out the garbage and received a call from her frantic daughter stating that she thought she had killed her boyfriend and that it was really bad. Woodside returned home and called the local police while attempting to perform chest compressions on Ash’s body. Burlew fled the scene of the crime but was later found and identified at a nearby neighbor’s apartment. When police arrived at the scene they discovered a strangled and mutilated man on Burlew’s bedroom floor. Burlew told police that she and Ash often engaged in consensual kinky sexual activities and this time she decided to choke Ash with an electrical wire during sex. Burlew became concerned after Ash passed out from the strangling so she cut Ash with a razor to evoke a response but received none. Burlew also stated that she became stressed after Ash did not respond and she continued cutting Ash’s body to relieve her own stress. Burlew’s mom Tracey revealed to officials that Burlew has a medical history of self-mutilation. The police initiated a search in Burlew’s bedroom and discovered documents proving Burlew’s medical condition to be true. Police also discovered the electrical wire, razor blade and song lyrics on the bed titled “change or die.”
Jessica Burlew confessed to committing death by strangulation and will be charged as an adult. She is currently being held in a juvenile detention center.
