The stars of About Last Night visited Atlanta to dish on the production that humorously details the highs and lows of modern-day dating.
In the remake of the romantic comedy first released in 1986, Ealy plays Danny, a shy restaurant supply salesman who falls head over heels for Debbie (Joy Bryant) who leaps into a relationship with him. By contrast, Joan (Regina Hall) is a fiery woman who attempts to settle down with her hookup, Bernie (Kevin Hart) to virtually no avail.
And while moviegoers will have to wait until Feb. 14 to see the how the dynamics of Joan and Danny’s love lives play out, Ealy and Hall spoke with rolling out about the Rainforest Films movie.
Both celebs expressed that they’re especially proud to be a part of a film featuring an African American cast. Furthermore, Ealy noted that he’s pleased with the casting of black actors in lead television roles.
“I think we often forget about the imagery in television as well,” he added. “In movies it’s better but it’s also better in TV than it was 10 to 15 years ago. Now with the opportunities in television we have leads in the shows; I’m playing a machine!”
“It is a good time to see that we have so many different types of movies,” said Hall. “I like that it’s all types. The fact that they’re all different unique and successful; it’s wonderful.
Hall then went on to describe her character, Joan, who she says is a representation of an everyday black woman.
“Joan is a real woman. She’s smart, she’s independent and a dentist who loves what she does,” said Hall. “Most importantly she’s very unapologetic, emotional and passionate. Black women, we love hard.”
After dishing on their film, Hall and Ealy walked the red carpet where they were joined by the likes of Rodney Perry, Wanda Smith of V-103 and reality star Monyetta Shaw (below).
