In the not-too-distant future, 2028, to be exact, a Detroit cop sustains horrific wounds after being injured on the job. And just like in the original 1987 film, doctors put him back together with a combination of weird science and nuts and bolts, creating a half-man-half robot super cop. RoboCop is bad news for the Motor City’s criminal element, but he’s very good news for OmniCorp, the multinational robotics corporation responsible for his existence, and its shareholders.
The film should do well at the box office thanks to a stellar cast that includes Academy Award nominee (1994’s Pulp Fiction) Samuel L. Jackson; Gary Oldman (Paranoia, The Dark Knight Rises); and the always terrific Michael K. Williams (“Boardwalk Empire,” 12 Years a Slave). –p.d. lee
