Three Buick Achievers Scholarship winners learned something very powerful during the UNCF “An Evening of Stars” weekend that you cannot learn in a classroom.
When you torpedo toward your dreams at full throttle and strive for sustained excellence, you will experience wonderful things that, initially, will be beyond your ability to fathom.
There is no way that the three Buick Achievers could have envisioned that, when they filled out the Buick scholarship applications, they would be feted with a 5-star weekend replete with upscale hotels (Atlanta’s beautiful Marriott Marquis), red carpets, close-up seats at a televised awards show and hanging with Hollywood celebrities like Cedric the Entertainer, the Braxton sisters and Trey Songz at the afterparty.
But that’s what happened when the three college students — Spelman College senior Narteyza Dykes; Ty’Quish Keyes of Morehouse College; and Oneisha Hall of Tuskegee University — hooked up with General Motors at the intersection of “Fate” and “Destiny.”
Buick, a division of GM, is always on the look out for high-performing college students in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and math) to bequeath scholarships to. These three high-performing students were looking to procure resources to aid in their matriculation through three famed HBCUs — Morehouse and Spelman colleges and Tuskegee University. Together, they made each other’s dreams come true.
And there is no way the students lives will ever be the same.
Take a quick photographic journey with the students as they were chaperoned through a limousine-style weekend they will never forget, thanks to Buick and General Motors.
