MARTA offers special service for Atlanta riders on 4th of July

Happy-4th-Of-July-Atlanta-2013

Celebrate your independence from the tyranny of driving this holiday weekend by taking MARTA to such time-honored festivities as the Peachtree Road Race, the Atlanta Braves game and fireworks displays at Lenox Square and Centennial Olympic Park.

From 4:45 a.m. on Friday, July 4, to 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, MARTA will operate special event service. Trains will run on a 10-minute service schedule (5-minute headways between Lindbergh Center and the Airport stations) added throughout the day to accommodate the celebrations. Additional MARTA staff and police will be deployed throughout the system to assist customers.

For only $2.50 each way (plus a $1 charge for a permanent Breeze card), using MARTA is an easy and affordable way to navigate holiday travel with ease. Due to the large crowds that are expected, customers are advised to purchase a round-trip fare at the beginning of their trip to avoid long lines on the return. Breeze tickets will also be sold for cash only at high traffic stations throughout the system to assist in expediting travel.

Paper tickets will be sold pre-race only at College Park, Doraville, Dunwoody, Lindbergh, North Springs and Sandy Springs. However, paper tickets will be sold before and after the race at Midtown and Arts Center stations.

Race participants can take Gold Line trains to Lenox Station or Red Line trains to Buckhead Station for the start of the race. Shuttle buses will also be available at Lindbergh Center Station before the race to transport runners close to the starting line (Buckhead Loop). After the race, there will be shuttles at Midtown Station to bring participants back to Lindbergh Center Station.

Parking for less than 24 hours is free at all MARTA daily parking facilities. Customers parking in the decks at Lindbergh Center Station must park in MARTA-designated areas. In order to receive free parking, customers must validate their parking tickets at machines inside Lindbergh Center Station before exiting the fare gates. Ticket validations are only good for a 30 minute period, so do not validate your ticket until you are ready to return to your car. Please note that MARTA has some designated lots, which charge a fee including Lenox, Brookhaven, Kensington and College Park stations.

Some bus routes will be re-routed for the Peachtree Road Race and other scheduled events. These bus routes are listed here: http://www.itsmarta.com/july-4th-2014-events.aspx.
