Openly Gay Athletes Finally Make The Big Leagues


After years of struggles with homophobia in the world of American professional sports, the NBA finally welcomed its first openly gay player this year when Jason Collins signed a contract for the season with the Brooklyn Nets. Progress was made in the NFL a few months later when Michael Sam was drafted and eventually signed by the St. Louis Rams, making him the NFL’s first openly gay player.
