3) China -China has reasserted its military and economic power in the Far East. The Chinese military is well aware that America’s resources are stretched thin and is playing it to its advantage. What has escaped the attention of many is an area of the world known as the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. These islands are claimed by 6 countries which include Brunei, Vietnam, The Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan. China has launched its first aircraft carrier in the region and has increased its military activity with patrols and denial of sea exercises.
