Mo’ne Davis, Magic Johnson receive big honors from Sports Illustrated

The SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Sportsman of the Year Award Presentation and Celebration in New York paid homage to sports legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who received the Sportsman of the Year Legacy Award; breakout star and gifted athlete Mo’ne Davis, who was named 2014 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS SportsKid of the Year; as well as San Francisco Giants Pitcher and World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner; and Pete Frates, who was honored as the 2014 Inspiration of the Year for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.


Guests included former President Bill Clinton, who was a featured speaker at the event, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, COO/MLB Commissioner-elect Rob Manfred, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT model Hannah Ferguson and pro-surfer Anastasia Ashley.


The SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Sportsman of the Year Award has been presented annually by the publication since its inception in 1954, and is bestowed upon the athlete, coach or team that best symbolizes in character and performance the ideals of sportsmanship.

The prestigious award and exclusive ceremony was held at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, which was hosted by former NFL quarterback and renowned sports commentator “Boomer” Esiason.
