Bay Area rapper ‘The Jacka’ killed

Dominic “The Jacka” Newton was shot and killed.  According to CBS San Francisco, The Jacka, 37, was murdered on MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland, California. Residents heard several shots fired on the evening of Feb. 1.

The Jacka was one of the more respected rappers from the Bay Area. He started his career in a group called Mob Figaz in the ’90s and embarked on a solo career in 2001. The Jacka released 14 solo albums, but his most critically acclaimed work came with a collaboration with Freeway. The album, The Stimulus Package, was considered one of the top albums of 2010 by many music critics.


The two released Highway Robbery in 2014.

There are currently no suspects in the killing of The Jacka.
