Alfre Woodard’s annual “Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree” was held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The Oscar®-nominated and Golden Globe®-winning actress and her distinguished friends honored director Ava DuVernay (SELMA, Oscar-nominated for Best Picture) and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (BELLE, BEYOND THE LIGHTS).

“To this soirée I invite all the African American women and women of color who have ever been nominated for an acting Oscar and those, who in a perfect world, should have been. I bring them together to celebrate each other and recognize we are colleagues, not competitors, for the three jobs designated for Brown girls. When we don our spangled frocks and sparkly shoes and make a resplendent presence during Oscar week, the business gets a jolting reminder of all the talent, beauty and experience we bring to this industry — one of those ‘Wow, I could have had a V-8!’ moments. Yes, we should be in contention for every part except the Queen of England! And we have a rollicking good time supporting each other,” she said.

The 2015 “Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree” was sponsored by Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds Lustre fragrance and Piper-Heidsieck, the exclusive Champagne of the Oscars. Event design was by David Merrell, AOO Events and transportation was provided by Audi.
