How ‘Fifty 50 Shades of Grey’ reportedly led to rape on a college campus

Fifty Shades of Grey has given BDSM a mainstream platform. As a result, more couples are likely to attempt some of the sexual exploits that are depicted in the book and film. But one college student is facing jail time after attempting to use Fifty Shades of Grey as inspiration for sex.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Mohammad Hossain, 19, invited a fellow classmate at the University of Illinois at Chicago to his dorm. Hossain allegedly asked the female to remove her clothing. She agreed to remove all of her clothing except her underwear. Hossain then tied the woman’s arms and legs together with belts. He put a necktie over her mouth and a knit cap over her eyes.

Hossain then removed the woman’s underwear and began punching her and hitting her with the belt. The woman told authorities that she began crying and wanted to stop. However, Hossain continued and sexually assaulted the woman.

The woman informed campus police and Hossain was arrested. He told authorities that he thought the sex was consensual and was attempting to re-enact a scene from the movie.

Hossain remains behind bars on sexual assault charges. His bail was set at $500K.
