ShaLaJa’ Swimwear showcases 2015 collection: Reality Can Wait

The beaches are calling our names. Even though we’re just in the first trimester of 2015, a trip to the beach is in order. If you’re landlocked like this writer here in Atlanta, you know exactly what I am talking about. During a recent visit toShaLaJa’ Swimwear’s pop-up showroom, the urge to spend some time beachside got stronger. Yeah, yeah, yeah, if you follow me on social media, you know I took a quick jaunt to Jamaica, paradise indeed, but I wasn’t sporting one of the adorable pieces from the ShaLaJa’ Swimwear collection. So it’s time to go back.

Shaquoya JacksonDesigned by Columbus, Georgia native, Shaquoya Jackson, this luxurious and cutting-edge line is just what they curvy and skinny girls ordered.

“My style is eclectic. I aim to accommodate every woman: from tomboys to the ladies who like to bling. I like designing monokinis. There will even be playful pieces in the upcoming collection,” she shares. “The goal is for you to be relaxed and feel sexy in your skin, while enjoying your day in your ShaLaJa’ Swimwear.”

She continues, “I sketch everything myself and send the drawing to designers in China and Turkey.”

Quite impressive for an Alabama State University graduate who had her sights sets on a career in TV and radio broadcasting when she marched in 2009. By 2011, things changed. Jackson shares, “I’ve always known how to draw. I have even been a model. I prayed to God to show me what to do. I was drawing, bored one day, and started sketching swimsuits. Next thing you know I filled several pages with designs.

“I relied on Google to learn how to start a business. My mother’s friend helped me to sell my whole first collection. I taught myself how to make a swimsuit using a tank top and T-shirts to drawn an outline of my swimwear,” she closes.
