Georgia state Rep. Tyrone Brooks resigns
Georgia state Rep. Tyrone Brooks was indicted by a grand jury for misappropriating $1 million in charitable funds. He’s scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. to enter a plea on federal charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, and filing false tax returns.
In May 2013, Brooks pleaded not guilty to 30 criminal counts on charges he misappropriated funds from Universal Humanities and the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials (GABEO) and used the money for personal expenses.
He personally hand delivered a letter of resignation today to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
UPDATE: Tyrone Brooks plead guilty to one count of tax fraud and no contest to five counts of wire and mail fraud.
