I like Sundays, I like the day time and I like parties. So, Imagine how excited I was to hear that Heineken was sponsoring a day party featuring Biz Markie and Kelly Price at The Mid Chicago.

The event was jam-packed, green bottles were everywhere, and Mark Fuller was doing what he does best — keeping the party hot. People were excited to get out. The spring in Chicago has not been forgiving, as a result if we get any sunshine we is goin outside, ha!

The opening act, Kentrell, set the stage on fire. His style is a mixture of trap music and R&B. I like it, don’t judge me. He performed a few songs getting the stage warmed for the main attraction, Kelly Price.

Price set off the set with “It’s My Time” and  followed up with “Should’ve Told Me.” I never realized how much heartbreak she sang about in her songs. At one point during her set, she asked for a moment of silence for Whitney Houston and asked that we not allow her legacy to be tarnished. Price also took a moment to acknowledge her weight gain, attributing it to the stress she has been feeling due to her baby sister’s death last year. Price closed out her set with “Friend of Mine,” and a gentleman from the audience sang the part of Ron Isley (Mr. Big) while the audience sang R. Kelly’s part. The day party could have ended there but there was one more treat besides the free tacos and beer.

Mark Fuller introduced Biz Markie to the stage and Biz did not waste anytime on the turntables immediately going old school with the Kurtis Blow song “These Are the Breaks.” A swell of nostalgia swept the room as Biz ran through hits from the ’80s and ’90s. It was pretty awesome to see people doing the running man and the wop in 2015. HA!! Then as if Biz had been to Chicago many times before he decided to throw on some House music and the crowd went wild. They were percolating and workin’ that mutha all over the place.

This was a great day to kick off the spring. Shout-out to Juan Kirkland of Juan and Only Events and Mark Fuller of enFullaffect marketing for the invite. It was a great event. I love day parties!
