Hundreds of people gathered at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church to pay respect to the nine victims who were shot and killed by racist terrorist Dylann Roof.

A makeshift memorial was set up where people bought flowers and cards for the deceased. Some cried while starring at the memorial, while others prayed to find peace and a sense of understanding. The mood became less somber as the crowd joined hands and sang spiritual songs such as “We Shall Overcome” and “Amazing Grace.” Members of the NAACP chanted, “When Black lives matter, all lives matter” and individuals of all races joined to take part in the chant.

However, police created a barrier around the entrance of the church and wouldn’t allow entry, as the interior of the church is a crime scene. Emanuel AME Church is one of the largest and oldest Black churches in America.

Here are several powerful images of Emanuel AME church following the racist terrorist attack.
