The screams were loud! WGCI packed the United Center with 13 thousand fans ready and waiting to have a great time with some of today’s most popular talent. This show seemed specifically designed for millennial females and they were getting exactly what they wanted. I was able to get there by the time Chicago’s very own Jeremih hit the stage. He ran through his usual hits and by the time he got to the end of his song “Planes,” he surprised the audience with an appearance from Chance The Rapper. Jeremih also brought out Lil Durk to do their song “Like Me.” It seemed like the plan was to have Durk do his set right after Jeremih’s but it didn’t work out that way and it was too bad because the crowd wanted to see Durk do his thing.

Arianna Alexander – Leon Rogers – Tameka Pope

WGCI morning show personalities Kyle Santillian, Kendra G and Leon Rogers of “The Morning Takeover” took a moment to salute Tamkea Pope and Arianna Alexander for their amazing scholastic achievements. Pope graduated as valedictorian of both her 8th grade and senior class at Wendell Philips. She has recieved upwards of $500k in scholarship money, but has chosen to stay home with her child and go to school closer to home. As a result, she has started a gofundme account to help pay for school. Alexander from Kenwood Academy High School has been accepted to 26 colleges and has been awarded $3 million in scholarship money. It was pretty awesome for WGCI to take time to recognize these young ladies.

August Alsina was the next artist up; he seemed to go through his set pretty quickly. When Trey Songz hit the stage, the screams got louder and even though I didn’t agree with his choice of jersey he chose to rock (Sox fan) I would have to say he is clearly a professional and knows how to work the crowd. He brought Dej Loaf out to rock with him and she performed her song “Try Me” for the packed house.

Lil Wayne closed out Summer Jam with 40 minutes of high energy and the audience was with him every step of the way. He mentioned three things that everyone needed to know” 1. He believes in God. 2. He would be nothing without his fans. 3. He would be nothing without his fans. Wayne honors his supporters with the way he works the stage and the energy he provides.

WGCI did a great job with Summer Jam this year. Let’s see what they have in store for 2016.
