Kenya Moore spent her 4th of July weekend in Chicago partying and promoting the importance of AIDS awareness. Kenya stopped by The Shrine during her Chicago tour to speak with fans and spread her message. Her fans were in attendance waiting for the first glimpse of the RHOA star. When she finally arrived the excitement was contagious and her entrance was applauded. She is definitely adored by her fans. We had a moment to speak with Kenya about the campaign and her upcoming sitcom.

How is your time in Chicago? And how do you feel about house music just in case you didn’t know this is The Chosen Few Weekend — a house music celebration.

Chicago has been amazing. I used to work here a lot when I started off as a model. I used to drive from Detroit where I was born and raised to Chicago, I still have friends and family here. I just love this city, I could live here if it wasn’t for the winter weather. […as much as I love Chicago, I like house music but I like when they mix it up, too.]

Why were you open to be a spokesperson for HIV/AIDS?

AIDS awareness should be important to us all; its a disease that is incurable. It causes tremendous grief and pain, not only pain and suffering to the people who are afflicted with the disease but to their families who lose them. [It’s unnecessary because] now we can be aware; we can take the necessary steps to prevent the disease. It first starts with awareness and secondly getting tested, knowing your status and keeping yourself healthy.

Could you talk a little bit about the sitcom you’ve been working on.

My sitcom is “Life Twirls On” and we are currently trying to negotiate the best possibe terms to bring it to a series, so that you will see it on your television hopefully in the fall and early spring. I can’t say if I am working with Tyler Perry, but know that it will be something good.

Could you leave some encouraging words for our readers?

I strongly believe in following your fate and you can make things happen for yourself; you don’t need someone to tell you a yes or a no, because you can make it happen for yourself. I’ve been a strong believer in that. I’ve been told no so many times and when someone tells me no it just gives me more motivation to say you know what? Watch me do it on my own.

I can’t say that I am too aware of Kenya’s personality in terms of “RHOA,” but what I do know is the woman I met recently was extremely gracious, poised, intelligent and beautiful. Enlisting her to promote AIDS awareness was a smart move. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Kenya.
