Amandla Stenberg found herself at the center of public attention this week when she boldly criticized Kylie Jenner for appropriating Black culture by rocking cornrows on her Instagram page. And although Jenner dismissed Stenberg (and dissed Jaden Smith in the process), Stenberg’s comments have sparked a national conversation about race and culture. Now, Stenberg has continued the conversation by posting her thoughts on cultural appropriation and why the world needs to confront erasure when it comes to Black lives.

Yesterday, Stenberg hopped on Instagram and posted a lengthy message on her thoughts on blackness and beauty, and she asked if Black female lives matter in society.

We applaud Stenberg for sparking a much-needed dialogue on race in America and for seeking to empower and encourage Black women.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees Stenberg’s stance as positive. For instance, Bravo host Andy Cohen recently blasted her for critiquing Jenner.

Read what Cohen had to say about Stenberg after the cut.

“Sadly and disappointingly, neither Talley nor Cox came to Stenberg’s defense”. Shocking! Not.

Ummm, I don’t know what Talley or Cox needed to come to Stenberg’s defense about. It’s a hairstyle. Andy asked was the HAIRSTYLE okay. They say yes. Why wouldn’t cornrows be okay on Kylie Jenner? They’re braids. Braids aren’t just worn by black people.

Andy Cohen aint sh!t and he never was. I’ve been woke to his azz. Unless it’s a black woman that fits a stereotype that he can exploit the hell out of(via his Housewives shows), he is not with it. Amandla #staywoke!

Amendla Stenberg…didn’t need them to defend her about the truth of her statement with their whitewashed @. They are afraid of losing their jobs or positions in society! The truth hurts and Andy Cohen knows this…he’s really the “JACKHOLE” they are quick to defend their own! Tally and Cox are on my sh*t list!

And so…when black women straighten their hair, isn’t that the same thing as white women getting corn rows? Listen, I thought Bo Derek looked stupid with them then…and Kylie looks stupid now. Isn’t she the one with a gut full of tiga in her????

    • TheVansOutside on July 14, 2015 at 1:51 pm

I guess blk ppl are missing the point as well….its about this familys exploitation of blk culture…not just a hair style…..Amanda is half wht herself…

Wht women straighten their hair too…wear wigs, weaves, dye and perms too. This has nothing to do with how blk women feel about themselves. Ita about using someone else’s culture for come up…just like Rachel.

The point is, people of color has been and still being criticized by whites about our hair and hairstyles and now white women are trying to wear the same hair style. Women of color, have been brainwashed to think that long straight hair is the definition of “BEAUTY”. What woman don’t want to look or be called beautiful? My point is that the criticizing of people of color hair and hairstyle was and is one of the biggest “LIES” that was ever told. I love my hair and to hell with what other people say!

But, are you not taking what Andy thinks/ said out of context? And the way the question was posed to Mr Talley and LaVerne was “Is it okay”….it is okay. Ive seen alot of nonblk women with their hair braided….and its cute on them…its summer time …cornrows are a covenant hair style for all women.

But, Amanda is referring to the exploitation of Black Culture by these Kardashians….with their blk men and fake blk bodies and lips. And hairstyles….Yes, Andy avoided the real topic…but some wht ppl are just really naive. And he’s not conern about their come up off blk culture…anyway….but do they (the Kard family) really care about it…or the ppl behind it? But, that wasn’t the conversation…now was it.
