Back in 2002 this London-based duo hit the music scene amid the neo soul explosion with a new sound and genre. Natalie Stewart and Marsha Ambrosius together are Floetry. The group went on to grace the world with a string of hits and then abruptly parted ways in 2006. They both continued on with their successful solo endeavors, and in May of 2015 Floetry reunited to give the fans what they were missing.

They recently made a stop at The Shrine in Chicago to a packed house. The crowd was in a frenzy, it really is hard to believe that it has been so long since they have been rocking together, and it made the energy that much higher.

After a quick meet and greet session with the fans on the Coup De’tat side of The Shrine and a great opening performance by Janine and The Mixtape, the crowd was ready for the main event. The moment Marsha’s signature run was heard over the speakers, it set the stage for the entire evening. It felt good to feel good and enjoy the music and the nostalgia attached to it. Floetry brings to mind a time in the early 2000s where the music was at the forefront and it was still OK to party and dance.

During Stewart’s solo performance of the evening, she reminded the audience of the importance of our energy and speaking words of power. She performed her song “Breathe” and informed us that the chorus itself is a mantra, and as the crowd sang along it felt powerful and cleansing. “You gotta let it go, let it go so you can grow, You gotta let it go, let it go, just breathe.”

Ambrosius brought a style she coined “sophisticated rachet” to the stage. She performed her song “Hopes She Cheats on you” much to crowds satisfaction. Her voice sounds amazing and strong and she sings with ease as she performs her set. Once they were done with their individual sets, Floetry performed all of their hit songs leading the way with “Butterflies” a song written by Ambrosius that was also sung by the legendary Michael Jackson.

As reunions go, this was probably the best we’ve ever witnessed, and it feels so good.
