‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ runs away with weekend box office

It turned out to be an easy assignment after all for Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.


The latest action-packed installment in the Mission franchise made easy work of the rest of the this week’s competition by raking in more than $56 million in its opening weekend. Coming in at a very distance second was the National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate. The cross-country comedy farce only managed to bring in $14.8 million in a relatively disappointing open. After holding on to the top spot for two consecutive weeks, Marvel’s Ant-Man slipped to No. 3 this week with $12.6 million earned. The animated family comedy Minions placed fourth this week raking in an additional $12.2 million. And rounding out the top five was Adam Sandler’s sci-fi  video game tale, Pixels, which added $10.44 million to its overall tally.
