Ty Dolla $ign’s listening party for ‘Free TC’ turns up Chicago’s Gold Coast

Heineken’s Red Star Access series in partnership with Juan and Only events welcomed Atlantic Records Ty Dolla $ign to Chicago’s Gold Coast for a private listening party. Ty was in town to preview his first full project Free TC. The title is in dedication to to his brother, TC, whom Ty says is in prison for a murder he did not commit.

Kyle Santillian of WGCI did a great job of hosting the event and touched on the musicianship of Ty, he plays multiple instruments and some of his personal history. Ty’s father is from the legendary R&B group Lakeside, so the music is in his veins. He discussed being able to show his versatility, so much so that he spent $60,000.00 on string arrangements alone for his release. The moment he played his first song it was well worth it. The first song called “Miracle” had a lush string arrangement and an unmistakable smooth L.A. vibe, a departure from what many may be used to.

Ty has a number of features on this release, the most notable is the one with Babyface. The song that he already has a video for is titled “Solid” and it is that. Ty strums his guitar and talks about his trap life in his R&B crooner voice while Babyface does backup vocals and it’s awesome. The most touching song is the one he recorded with his brother, who is currently imprisoned. He transformed a raw vocal and beat from his brother into one of the most beautiful songs and melodies you will ever hear. Two of Chicago’s finest also make an appearance as features. I’m not going to say who it is, but I will say one rhymes with “Sundays Best”

The R&B hybrid has finally surfaced and his name is Ty Dolla $ign. Looking forward to hearing it when it drops.
