The Jazz Institute of Chicago is all about promoting and nurturing this American genre of music. The 30th annual jazz club tour kicked off a weekend of festivities dedicated to the 37th annual Jazz Fest in Chicago.

Trollies packed with jazz lovers from across the United States circle the city and visit different clubs from the north side to the south side. The clubs on the list this year were Andy’s Jazz Club, City Life, The Drake Hotel, Normans Bistro, The Promontory, Green Mill, Jazz Showcase, M Lounge and Reggie’s Music Joint.

We had the pleasure of joining the tour at Reggie’s Music Joint where The Hans Lux Quartet played on the rooftop. Once they were done, Duane Powell continued the festivities with an impeccable selection on the ones and twos as the crowd enjoyed themselves on a beautiful summer night in Chicago.

We asked Vanessa Abron what she liked most about the jazz club tour and this is what she said: “ I liked that it gave patrons the opportunity to experience jazz clubs throughout the city of Chicago whether it be the north side, south side or downtown. You’ve got a variety of clubs to experience and because you had such a variety of clubs to experience you had the opportunity to experience many different types of jazz.”
