Singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has been called The Perfect Gentleman, but lately his female fans have been serving him attitude because of his transition from his former fiancée and mother of his two children, Monyetta Shaw; to his new love, Crystal Renay. Shaw and Ne-Yo were together for years and had two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. Rumor has it Ne-Yo convinced Shaw to have a tubal ligation, after deciding they didn’t want anymore children. Shaw obliged and the two continued along the road to marital bliss, until a roadblock presented itself and happily ever after, as it often does, came to an end. Fast-forward a couple of years and Ne-Yo is now the leading man to video vixen Renay and the two have announced her pregnancy and excitement about their pending bundle of joy. Ne-Yo posted a picture of Renay showcasing her very pregnant belly with the caption That glow. Go head n’ make that preggo thang look GOOOOD @mscrystalrenay #SJMamaBAD #MILFLife . Adorable, right? But what about Shaw and her tied fallopian tubes? Fans didn’t hesitate to point out Ne-Yo’s insensitivity toward his ex.

Adding fuel to the fan fire, Shaw has been vocal about her hope for reconciliation and even suggested she never expected their split to be permanent. Ne-Yo responded to fans’ comments by tweeting, “Clearing the air. I didn’t force Mo to tie her tubes/ Mutual decision. And the procedure is reversible. #SheCanHaveKids #FromTheHorsesMouth.”

The most popular method of sterilization for women is laparoscopic tubal ligation. The method utilizes an electrical current to cauterize sections of the fallopian tubes. According to Web MD, pregnancy rates after reversing this procedure are about 70 percent. So while Ne-Yo’s quote that his ex “can have kids” is 70 percent true, it’s not 100 percent guaranteed. Still, it was Shaw’s personal choice to have a surgical procedure that would prohibit her from having additional children. Before committing to a life-altering procedure, one should consider the consequences, regardless of their current circumstances.

Tubal ligations, vasectomies and even tattoos are all permanent life decisions. Instead of blaming an ex for your decision, we all have to take responsibility for our life-altering decisions in spite of our partners’ suggestions. If your forever i.e., situation-ship or current situation, should end, you’re left with your reality for an eternity. Time heals all wounds, and Shaw’s life will go on. While seeing Ne-Yo’s comments no doubt add insult to injury, and perhaps add time to her healing process, it’s something that hopefully more women will consider objectively before altering their bodies permanently.
