Lupe Fiasco starts nonprofit to support entrepreneurs and startups
Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco announced over the weekend that he’s co-founded a new non-profit endeavor with the goal of helping young inner-city entrepreneurs “turn ideas into start-ups.”
The project, announced by Fiasco via Twitter, is called the Neighborhood Start Fund and according to the project’s website its mission is to create “a neighborhood-specific fund to support entrepreneurs and start-ups from underserved areas and of course so the best new ideas won’t go wasted. We provide access, network, workshops, mentoring and of course funding.”
Fiasco and project co-founder Di-Ann Esinor will kick off the inaugural neighborhood fund for entrepreneurs and start-ups with a live pitch event in Brooklyn next month.
“Our first neighborhood is Brownsville Brooklyn,” says Esinor. “We’ve just opened the idea competition and the first live pitch event will be Nov. 13, 2015. We will be housed at the Dream Big Foundation’s new entrepreneurship center and cafe opening in Jan. 2016.”

Why not roll it out in, you know, Chicago…… Smdh
At least he’s doing something….
He’s a CO-founder so there are OTHER people and their hometowns to consider…. Or maybe, as businessmen, they didn’t decide where to start based on nostalgia but with what they as a collective thought made the most sense….. This is an article about someone doing something great and you have to nitpick. How about YOU go do something in Chicago SMDH
Always someone complaining! Lupe can hold the Earth for everyone and people like you would ask him “what about mars?”. How about YOU do this same idea in Chicago since you have so much to say about it. If you aren’t helping just shut the hell up!!
that’s awesome, small businesses, especially black ones, really do need help, and since economic dependence/independence is one of our most major issues, I think moves like this are super important. i really wonder what he has to say about politics these days though. he was very vocal about supporting hilary and kinda trashing obama a while back. honestly, i’ve felt some type of way about him ever since then.
Weekend hair is fab..is he mixed i suspect he is..
