Building Our Own Community (BOOC) held its annual Images of Imani Gala and Benefits Banquet recently at New Zion Banquet Hall in Dolton, Illinois. The festivities celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of the youth, work and commitment of community leaders, and the brilliance of the community members who do their part in building their community.

Images of Imani was founded upon the idea that the community must unite for the purpose of meeting the growing needs of the youth and the community at large. Proceeds from the banquet will benefit the Joseph Storehouse Food Pantry, the award-winning Robotics Program, BOOCbotics, and the BOOC Borehole project in the Akwaprong community in Ghana, West Africa.

The 2015 honorees of the Images of Imani Gala are Secretary of State Jesse White, for the Lifetime Achievement Award; June Hawkins for being a DCFS caregiver; RJ Dale Advertisement owner Robert J. Dale for his commitment to BOOC, and Joan Millender, recent retiree from Ingalls Memorial Hospital, for commitment to her community.

Through the years, BOOC has developed into a reputable organization. After establishing a food pantry and youth programs, they’re teaming up with other local organizations to establish a solid, resourceful health initiative that will educate the south suburban community about disease prevention and treatment and overall health and wellness.
