At B.B. King Blues Club and Grill Nov. 6, Stephanie Mills proved that after a music career spanning over 40 years, she is still a vocal powerhouse.

The 58-year-old soul singer performed some of her most notable songs in the New York City club, including “Home,” the tune that jump-started her career when she performed it as Dorthy in the Broadway production of The Wiz in 1975.

This December, Mills will pass her role of Dorthy on to newcomer Shanice Williams for “The Wiz Live!,” which is the television adaptation of the iconic tale. Mills will play Auntie Em, while Queen Latifah will portray The Wiz, David Alan Grier will be the Cowardly Lion, and Ne-Yo will play the Tin Man. The 3-hour live special airs on NBC Dec. 3.

Mills is also well-known for a string of hit singles, including “Never Knew Love Like This Before,” “Sweet Sensation,” and “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore.” She’s also a Grammy Award winner and an American Music Award winner.
