An 8-year-old boy was allowed to care for a 1-year-old girl and allegedly killed the toddler. According to AL.com, the incident occurred at a home in Birmingham, Alabama.
Katerra Lewis, 26, went to a nightclub and allowed her 1-year-old child to be cared for by the 8-year-old boy. At some point, the baby began crying and the 8-year-old caregiver allegedly reacted with violence. He beat the toddler until the baby was unconscious. He then put the toddler back into her crib.
Lewis returned to the home around 2 a.m. and went to sleep. The next morning, she realized the child was not responding. The child was rushed to the emergency room, but she died due to blunt force trauma to the head.
Lewis, who was living at the home until she could find Section 8 housing, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
The 8-year-old boy and four other kids have been removed from the home.
