Lamar Odom is definitely in better shape than he was last month after a near-death experience from a reported drug overdose at a Nevada brothel. But, even though Odom has made some progress since regaining consciousness, a new report claims that Odom may have suffered brain damage after emerging from a temporary coma resulting from the overdose.

Earlier this week, Odom’s estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, opened up about Odom’s progress and explained that he’s off all life support machines, but he has a long road of mental and physical therapy ahead of him.

“He will try to learn how to walk… so that is first… When he can support himself on his own, or physically try to walk better on his own or at least with an assistance, with, like, a walker, then he will probably leave the hospital and do a lot of cognitive and mental strengthening,” said Kardashian.

However, according to TMZ, Odom’s current mental condition may be worse than Kardashian revealed. Sources claim that recent weeks have yielded little progress for Odom and that, at best, he’s only able to utter a few words. The sources also say that, at times, Odom seems “empty” and doesn’t always recognize longtime friends and family when they visit him in the hospital.

Last month, it was reported that doctors warned Odom and his family that he may have suffered permanent damage and that the extent of the damage wouldn’t be known until months from now. Doctors caution that Odom may be suffering from significant brain damage.

Neither Kardashian nor another Odom representative have confirmed the report. But, if true, Odom is facing a grim reality and an even harder uphill battle toward full recovery.
