India Arie opens up at The Experience

I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few of Dedry Jones ‘The Experience’ events. They have all been very good; however, the most recent one with India Arie is my favorite, thus far.

Grammy award winner, singer and songwriter India Arie visited The Kroc Center on the south side of Chicago recently to take part in ‘The Experience’. ‘The Experience’ gives fans a personal view of their favorite artists. It’s unique in that you receive up close and personal insight of your favorite artist directly from them. Dedry’s interviewing style makes it feel like two people are having a conversation as if no one else is in the room.

India was extremely open and candid. She mentioned how she wasn’t exactly excited about her time in Atlanta and how it ultimately led to her pursuing her dream of being an artist. Early on in her career, India’s album Acoustic Soul was nominated for seven Grammys and she did not win one. She explained how hurt she was after that and mentioned it thrust her into a different type of spotlight that she may not have had if she had won one or two awards. She also mentioned having a conversation with L.A Reid about this and he explained this is the reason the Urban Alternative category was formed so that artists similar to India would have a space to be recognized.

India spent the night sharing how she created many of her most popular songs and towards the end of the evening performed some selections. She opened with “The Christmas Song” from her most recent release with the late Joe Sample “Christmas with Friends.” It was a moving rendition of a holiday classic.

This was a great Experience; we are looking forward to the next one.

Take a look at a few of the pics in the gallery below.

She is just not the same India Arie, now that she has BLEACHED her SKIN. She is not as real anymore.

It’s all good to BLEACH your skin, but remember, that your Dark-Skinned audience pays your bills.

Alicia Keys won the awards, but you won the PEOPLE!

Stfu! She has not bleached her skin! I’ve been supporting this sister since she dropped her first album and hers was the first concert I ever attended back then. I actually see her at different places around town and from that day years ago til now her complexion has not changed. Stop spreading bs anti-black woman propaganda started by other self-hating black men.

She was a CHOCOLATE MOCHA and now she is a Cinnamon BROWN.

India Arie — has been BLEACHING for a while sorry to hurt your feelings.

she did change her complexion digitally for those pictures that came out a few years ago when this controversy first began. she even admitted to oprah that she manipulated her skin tone for the photo shoot, but she said it was to go with the coco butter theme she was going for. i know someone who bleaches and used to be dark skinned, and their skin is grayish and unhealthy looking…think sammy sosa. bleaching will not make you india’s complexion. she MAY have brightened due to her change in location…that’s happened to me before and that happens to lots of people. but she basically looks the same complexion to me as she used to.

            That’s over BLEACHED.

Beyonce, Nikki, Lil Kim, and half of BLACK HOLLYWOOD have Bleached themselves.

I think she may have had a chemical peel. A lot of darker skinned people have a problem with hyperpigmentation (dark spots) and having a chemical peel will brighten and even out your complexion.

perhaps, i just don’t think she bleached. if she were that type of person, she probably would be wearing a long weave and doing music that is totally different. i’m not saying it’s impossible that she’s lying about this, because i obviously don’t know her, but i just doubt that she would.

You obviously have NEVER seen her in person and are making your judgement based on photos (where lighting and such is a factor). I have seen her in person and she is hardly cinnamon brown. Keep leaning, though. Smfh
