So, 2016 has started the way 2015 ended in Chicago. The shooting has continued and more videos have been released. Since January 1, 110 people have been shot, compared to 37 during the same time last year. That’s a nearly 200 percent increase, according to cbsnews.com. Everybody is offering a solution. The Chicago group Foster and Jack offer their solution and kicked it off with a benefit concert at the Promontory recently. The four member group provide encouragement through their music to curb the Chicago violence. Dion Jetson hosted the event. The Elite Society was on hand along with Paige Gillian, DJ INC and Grammy award winning artist GLC with music and performances that kept the crowd warm in light of the sub zero temperatures outside.

Foster and Jack challenge all Chicago hip hop artists to participate in a national unification campaign. The campaign is simple: hug a young black male. This simple act of kindness has the potential of changing one’s perspective. According to Foster and Jack, “The hug will serve as a mustard seed (small act of faith) for young black males between 13-21 years of age. We want to hug them and show them love.”  The goal is to hug 100K young black males and raise the money with donations from $5-50. The challenge has a fundraising goal of $125K that will seed programs at city wide organizations that serve young men.

Take a look at a few pics from the kick off.
