Janet Hubert goes off on Will and Jada over Oscars boycott: ‘Get over yourselves!’

Actress Janet Hubert, also known as Aunt Viv from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is voicing her opinion about Jada Pinkett Smith’s announcement that she’s boycotting the Oscars due to a lack of diversity. Hubert says it’s suspect that Jada is boycotting only after her husband didn’t get a nomination.

UNITY is lacking. Will anything ever get done in Black society when people are so disjointed and looking for a butter biscuit from master?

      January 19, 2016

Yes even if she believed Will and Jada’ s decision to boycott is self serving why not express your feelings to them personally. This was not the time. Why can’t we unite and stand for something?

Jada’s attempt to organize an escape from the plantation has been met with resistance from those loyal to master. Blacks need to stop talking and listen to code speak. Jada’s message was about more than the stupid Oscars.

Yes most missed the message because they couldn’t get past Jada and Will being rich movie stars and believed they were being self serving. Even if you believe they are it doesn’t change the facts of what she said, which were 100% on point.

You have a lot of blacks with a surface-level thought process who truly believe that this is about the Oscars.

If that is how you view it – then I guess Black people are doomed.

Let me just say, Will has been nominated twice, he lost once to Denzel, once to Forest, 2 outstanding black brothers. So count me as a disjointed brother. Hell, Leonardo ain’t won anything I don’t believe, along with a whole host of great white actors and actresses. Find a meaningful cause Jada. I do believe hubby has won his share of Grammys. Get over urself.

      She isn’t bitter.
Where was all the unity to surround Janet when she was being blackballed?
All paid millionaires leading a silly boycott while the kids in Flint have toxic water!

        January 21, 2016

So Black people can’t handle both? Why does it always have to be “1 thing at a time”in the Black community, and then nothing gets done on either issue?

This is the same tactic racist use when it comes to BLM, “what about all the black on black violence.” So sad.

No, apparently black people cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. We cannot possibly find room in our brains or hearts to have care or concern about more than one issue. smdh

Everybody can’t win the Superbowl. Everybody can’t win the NBA championship. Everybody can’t win American Idol. Everybody can’t win a Grammy. Everybody can’t get the role in the school play…and Everybody can’t get the OSCAR!! I’m tired of these self-entitled entertainers wanting to be their own judges, 1st it was Kanye, then(here’s a laugh) Omarion…now The Smith’s. It ain’t a black thing…it’s a EGO thing. Get over it, produce, direct and perform to an Oscar level that can’t be ignored (with a regular accent) and bring attention to some of the serious s–t going on out here.

From the first sentence she uttered to address Jada in this video, I knew this was going to be loaded with disrespect and personal feelings. “Miss thing…?” And Janet Hubert dared to reveal her age (60 years old), as if that means anything after she started to open her mouth.

The truth hits deep!!!! What I like about this is a sister calling out a sister. I love Will Smith but the lady is right. There are greater things happening all around us other than winning something. If we as human beings don’t keep each other in check, our focus will always go to material things and not things that feed the soul. If you look at this, only one person or team can be in first place. They get the glory/money/magazine cover etc. What this lady is trying to get everyone to understand is unity for all people by bringing focus to our hurting nation. Hunger, homeless, jobless, divorced or widowed parent with children, people killing each other, fighting other countries wars, drugs, school systems. ETC. I guess the most important thing here is communication. Jada has the right to say whatever she wants and boycott what she wants. But she was asking people to boycott something that she felt short changed on. It wasn’t anything to do with humanity. And this lady as well as Jada has the right to express her opinion as well as anyone else. And I agree with her on this one. We as individuals will always see things differently and that makes for an interesting conversation. This lady didn’t call Jada any names or anything but here some people may judge this lady for saying we should have our focus on biggers issues in our country. P
eople are saying it maybe hate or jealousy is the reason she made this video. Agree with her or don’t agree with her. But don’t put a label on her for speaking her mind. OKAY ENOUGH SAID.

Placing aside her bitterness for Will Smith from their “Fresh Prince of Bel Aire” day, she does have a point. Jada Pinkette Smith, Michael Moore and other boycotting the Oscars are placing black actors/actress in a tough spot- Go and be called Uncle Tom but don’t go and be risk hurting your career in a way or missing out in networking opportunities. If you want people to recognize you, sometimes you need to produce thrice the quality of others.

This entire video is so very sad to me ! First off, this is the only format you have now!! You have not been on screen as far as I know since “Fresh Prince “! Really is this how you want to be remembered?? A bitter, out of work actor?
Okay, so you and the Smith’s have had issues!!! Stuff happens! But you my dear are “stuck”!! And this has caused you a joyous, prosperous carrier! It’s not at all about the Oscars! It’s about your being “stuck” back in 1996!! Stop with the rants and seek help to truly move on with your life!!!
