Losing a child is a horrible experience that no mother should ever have to go through, however, for various reasons it seems to be more and more common in today’s society.

Destiny Gonzalez is a young mother from Chicago who lost her infant son, Kaiden, to sudden infant death syndrome. Despite the pain of losing Kaiden, Gonzalez has decided to honor his life by becoming a blessing to other mothers who have lost children. On what would have been her son’s second birthday, Destiny celebrated “Kaiden’s Day” with the creation of the “Mom’s Night Out” spa day for mothers of deceased children.

Held at the popular Salon Olori, the spa day treated a dozen mothers to the ultimate makeover experience and provided fresh hairstyles, makeup, nail services, massages and facials while enjoying champagne and sweets. The attendees were also treated to luxury gift bags provided by lifestyle brand Rich Girl Candy, while three lucky moms won a raffle for a trip to Cancun courtesy of LIV Global League International.

Gonzalez says the event, which had Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland as a special guest, is simply about giving hope and support to other mothers dealing with the same issues.

“I lost my son when he was 5 months old and my life was forever changed,” Gonzalez says. “No matter if you lose a child to SIDS, illness or gun violence, it will alter you for the rest of your life. Mom’s Night Out is my way of giving hope and love to the many women who are a part of this forever growing sorority. My goal is to empower each of these moms and to give them a piece of strength as they continue to heal.”

Plans are in the works to take Mom’s Night Out on the road with a May date in Atlanta already in the works. For more information on the event or to learn how you can help support moms of deceased children, please email [email protected].
