In honor of the release of Mike Epps’ Meet the Blacks, Breakout Atlanta held a private event allowing guests to experience a real-life escape game where participants have to crack codes and use clues to escape a room. Since Meet the Blacks is a spoof of The Purge, it was only right to celebrate accordingly.

Guests were welcomed with food catered by Panera, an open bar, and an OMG Booth. Laughter filled the air while guests anxiously awaited a chance to play the escape game. Attendees included Meet the Blacks’ Lil’ Duval, “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Porsha Williams and Kandi Burruss, film producer Will Packer, “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’s Karlie Redd, and Notorious’ Jamal Woolard. Needless to say, the venue was wall-to-wall packed.

After guests mixed, mingled and enjoyed complimentary CamiCakes cupcakes (which were amazing), they were divided into several teams and sent into different rooms. The first team, “Dish Nation’s” Porsha Williams, Headkrack, Gary With Da Tea, and Lil Duval, entered the kidnapping room. Following right behind them, was Kandi Burruss and the Kandi Koated Night team who all entered the Casino Room. Everyone else dispersed into either the Museum or Hostage room.

The end result? Priceless. As with any competition, there were several debates between Lil Duval and Kandi as to which team really won and both teams argued which one’s task was more difficult. Kandi’s team reigned supreme nonetheless and respectfully gloated via social media. Overall, everyone had a great time and it was a fun experience.

Before the games, we got a chance to catch up with Lil Duval to talk about the movie.

Describe your character in the movie.

I play Mike Epps’ [Carl Black’s] cousin. I’m the cousin that’s been to jail. I’m kind of like the mess-up. I’m like that black sheep but I’m still down for my cousin.

What was it like on set working with such a funny cast?

It was like being on set with my friends; which they are my friends because we all know each other. We’ve been knowing each other from doing stand-up together and stuff so what y’all are seeing is what we do all the time.

What reaction do you want viewers to have to the film?

Y’all are going to laugh! That’s the only thing I want y’all to do. Laugh and be scared. It’s going to a be a funny, scary movie. I guarantee you’re going to jump at least once. The rest, you’re going to laugh.

Meet The Blacks premiered Friday, April 1.
