The Chicago Theater has been the venue of choice lately. Recently, WGCI’s morning show, “The Morning Takeover” consisting of Kyle Santillian, Kendra G and Leon Rogers, celebrated their one year anniversary. Chicago’s radio market is an ever-changing landscape and “The Morning Takeover” has carved out a significant chunk of the vast market that has helped WGCI maintain a top five position with regard to top radio stations in Chicago, according to 2015 Nielsen Audio figures. A highly competitive field exists among morning shows and “The Morning Takeover” is a formidable force.

The celebration created a packed house to The Chicago theater. At first glance the bill seemed different. Kevin Gates, K Michelle and Yo Gotti were set to perform for the evening. It made sense as the night went along. The show opened with Zoey Dollars a Haitian duo from Miami, 2 Milly “Milly Rock” and TK & CASH “3 X IN A ROW”. They did a great job of warming up the crowd for the main performers.

Kevin Gates came out to a raucous crowd and it got louder when he performed his song “Two Phones” that has given Gates considerably more radio time. He mentioned he is used to performing at smaller venues when he comes to Chicago, so to see the Chicago Theater full of people who want to see him made him happy.

K. Michelle followed and you could feel the energy of the audience move closer to the stage. Michelle may have been the most notable artists on stage because of her reality show “K Michelle: My Life” and the fact that she is so open about everything. She took the audience on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as she performed “Can’t Raise A Man”, “Cry” and closed her set out with “Very Special.”

Memphis native Yo Gotti was the headliner for the evening and came out performing a high energy set, featuring mixtape songs and a few of his big hits “I Know”, “Yayo” and his runaway hit “Down in the DM.” Gotti could have just stood there the entire set because the audience sang all the words. Gotti got the streets on lock.

It was a great celebration for WGCI and “The Morning Takeover” team. We wish them many more.
