Women are unstoppable when they’re ready to make power moves. Powell Couture hosted their 2nd annual Power Moves Networking Brunch on April 2, 2016, at The Garden Theater in Detroit. The intimate affair was attended by a diverse group of  dynamic female entrepreneurs who came together and networked with a powerful purpose. Vendors were on hand with products ranging from books and jewelry to skin care and chic apparel. Divine Indulgence Personal Chef Services provided a delectable meal that included chicken salad on croissants, chicken and waffles and mini veggie egg frittatas, along with an array of sinful pastries to satisfy those with a sweet tooth. Each attendee received a swag bag filled with goodies; including padfolios, which added a special touch.

Launched in 2011, Powell Couture offers custom-made designs for women. Owner-designer, Brittany Powell discovered her passion for fashion during her teen years. She eventually decided to turn her passion into her purpose and ventured into the world of entrepreneurship. Powell’s ultimate goal is to be a featured designer at New York Fashion Week. The Power Moves Networking Brunch was born from a need to establish and build a network of  like-minded ladies. “The concept of Power Moves is: just go after it!  Powell explained, “I want to provide an atmosphere for women to come together, support each other and let women know, you have a support system.”

Highlights of the day were a speed networking segment during which attendees practiced their elevator pitch and an inspirational keynote speech by CEO and founder of Model Momz, Crystal Cole. Model Momz is an organization that promotes empowerment, unity and entrepreneurship among “goalfriends.” Cole led an activity involving balloons in which each participant was challenged to find other participants whose names were on the balloons. It was a fun and teachable moment from which attendees were reminded that we receive fulfillment when we’re able to help and give to others. Radio show host and producer of “Motor City Woman,” Robin Kinnie, served as mistress of ceremonies with contagious enthusiasm.

The event ended with an open discussion with the Power Panel, which consisted of Cole and Powell, along with comedienne/actress Mo Owens; CEO and founder of brand support blog, Her F.L.A.M.E.S., Cie’ra Blakenship; wellness coach Jo Thurmond; and founder of Glam Girl fashion blog, Chyann Hawk. The panel shared candid insight and advice about their experiences with entrepreneurship.
