“It was natural. I was taking Claritin before our collaboration,” says Kelly Rowland of her now two-year partnership with Claritin. “I was a fan of the brand.” Bayer HealthCare teamed up with Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum superstar and allergy sufferer Kelly Rowland again this spring. Rowland is one of approximately 75 million Americans who have allergies.

Bayer HealthCare, the makers of Claritin®, boasts they are the No. 1 selling non-drowsy allergy brand that proudly sponsors spring.

“I love to be outside — it gives me energy and inspiration for my music,” Rowland shared in a statement prior to this interview. “I suffer from seasonal allergies, but I am at peace with spring thanks to Claritin. When my allergies hit, I reach for Claritin. That’s why I am so excited about this partnership — no one should have to miss out on their favorite outdoor activities because of allergies.”

Below the singing sensation and new reality TV star of “Chasing Destiny” talks about her toddler son Titan and reading to him while visiting a local Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where she is a national ambassador.

What is the most annoying thing about having allergies?
When you are simply trying to start your day. The sneezing and watery eyes are the worst. It doesn’t stop. I am like, we have to fix this.

How old is Titan?
My son is 17-months-old.

What was his first word?
His first word was “car.” He absolutely loves cars. It’s really interesting to watch him play with his cars.

What is his book collection like?
He has books galore. There are books all over our house. The love of reading is what my husband and I wanted him to embrace. I actually read to him when I was pregnant. I think it still stimulates him. He still loves it. He loves to read while we’re on the porch.

What is your favorite book to read to him?
Right now, he loves Brown Bear, Brown Bear. He loves the book his dad reads to him, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. He likes books with colors and books that rhyme.

Fortunately, there are ways to manage and relieve symptoms effectively. Here are some doctor-recommended tips for allergy sufferers this spring:

  • Beat the clock: Peak pollen production can occur in early morning, so try to plan outside activities for other times of the day.
  • Change is good: A quick shower and change of clothes can remove pollens that may have collected on hair or fabrics while you were outside.
  • Check the forecast: Check pollen counts and air quality to help plan or limit your exposure to allergens.

“In addition to taking precautions to manage allergy triggers, I also recommend that when people’s allergy symptoms start, they take Claritin every day of their allergy season for as long as their allergy triggers remain for continuous relief that is powerful and non-drowsy,” informs Jonathan Field, M.D., practicing physician and co-chief at Allergy and Asthma Care of New York and member of the Claritin C.L.E.A.R. Council. “One dose lasts 24 hours, so allergy sufferers can focus on enjoying their time outdoors, not on their symptoms.”
