WGCI helped to kick-start the Chicago summer with its annual Summer Jam at the United Center. The station’s celebrities were on hand to host a power packed show. The lineup consisted of John Kent, Katie Got Bandz, Famous Dex, Plies, Desiigner, Migos, 2 Chainz, T.I., Young Jeezy and Lil Durk. The most notable performances came from T.I. and 2 Chainz. Fresh off the news that his stepdaughter had been arrested for trying to bring a weapon onto a plane, T.I. hit the stage unfazed and breezed through his catalog of hits. You would never guess that anything so serious was going on in his life. 2 Chainz hit the stage ready to go in, but after finding out he only had 20 minutes to perform, he was a tad bit irritated. He yelled out to the promoters to never book him for a 20-minute performance ever again. Then he said he was going to perform 20 minutes of hits and he did. At one point he turned the clock that artists use so they don’t go over their time toward the crowd then he came back and pushed it face down as he went into his last song, “Watch Out” and the crowd went crazy.

Hometown artists Katie Got Bandz, Famous Dex and Lil Durk participated in the turn up. The night’s most petty moment was when Durk turned to the crowd and said “Remember last year when people was [sic] leaving when Kendrick came out, well they stayed for me,” he said. Durk was alluding to the fact that droves of Future fans left Summer Jam after he performed last year, basically because they all came to see Future. What Durk failed to mention was the temper tantrum he had by slamming the mic on stage when his time was cut short last year. How soon we forget.

We asked Tori Martin, aka Chiraqbarbie, what she thought of the show. “The fact that John Kent left with three minutes [left] blew me [away]. When Plies brought Katie back out that was dope! I love the fact that lil Durk closed out the show. WGCI owed him that! Last year they hit him with the wrap it up box. Fetty better have a no-fly or some type of restrictions that kept him from leaving to be there,” she said.

Fetty Wap was originally on the bill, but he didn’t show and their were murmurings of threats and rumors flying around as to the reason he didn’t show.

Overall it was a great show. Check out the pics below.
