Dr. Tamara Pizzoli is a sister of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She was initiated in 1999 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Originally from Killeen, Texas, Dr. Pizzoli has resided in Rome for nearly seven years. Having given herself permission to follow through on whatever she deems to be a great idea, she most accurately describes herself as a creative. Such a general label leaves time, space and flexibility for a plethora of projects she commits to managing and executing with care and love, including writing and publishing high quality, ethnically appropriate and appealing children’s literature under her boutique publishing house, The English Schoolhouse, curating and managing an online art gallery primarily promoting positive Black imagery in high art, and creating and executing important visual stories in the form of documentaries and web series via her media company, Pizzoli Media. Credits include the documentary In Nero: Black Girls in Rome and the upcoming web series that shares the same title and is loosely based on her life and experiences in Rome as a Black woman.

She said, “To me, being an AKA means continual lessons in and demonstrations of the characteristics that would describe the type of woman I would hope to always be — committed to service, grace, poise, class, dignity, high achievement, and promise. It means carrying the baton that’s been passed to me along with so many other young Sorors and adding unique and relevant patchwork to this incredible, interwoven quilt of excellence that began over a century ago through contribution, character and a common goal — progress.”

Pizzoli is surely one to watch. Her creativity and overall zest for life is refreshing. Check out photos of a few of her book covers and video trailers to her documentary and web series below. Videos provided by Dr. Tamara Pizzoli.
